The
ancient forge of Efesto
now
lives again, within the old walls of a recently restructured stable
that once belonged to the Benedictine Order, going back to 1624.
It is located in Bovisa, a suburb in Northern Milan, which has become
a highly active part of the new Milanese Politecnic’s department
of architecture, design and research. Efesto forge is a centre
of craftsmanship, a meeting point for every kind of traditional
and innovative and creative technology: here the conceptual design
and realisation of metal working can take place at premises that
are fully equipped with tools and instrumentation, offering capabilities
that are reminiscent of an almost forgotten will to creativity.
Having arisen in 1997 through the meeting of two young designers,
both attracted and fascinated by the possibilities of using metals
to create fine art works, the forge of Efesto seems to revive an
ancient art. Since then it has enabled Alessandro Rametta and Christian
Casati to acquire full of knowledge and practical experience, best
on traditional techniques of metalworking. With enthusiasm for
discovery and research and a strong desire to apply them to sculpture
and design, also interior decoration and furnishings, Alessandro
and Christian have for a decade been producing a wide range of experimental
and multiform works: thus following their strong belief in harmony
and beauty, as can be seen in the unique nature of their creations,
which are always greatly admired by whoever observes them… |
